Every Spring, the tile world comes together for one of its biggest events of the year: Coverings. From global manufacturers to independent artisans, Coverings 2025 brought the best in tile design, innovation, and material technology to the show floor — and we were thrilled to be there in person once again.
Here’s a look at the standout trends, moments, and takeaways from this year’s exhibition.
A Shift Toward Warmth and Texture
This year’s show marked a noticeable move away from the cool-tone marble looks that have dominated in recent years. In their place, we saw a resurgence of warm neutrals and handmade aesthetics; styles that bring a softer, more lived-in feel to both residential and commercial spaces.
It’s a shift we’ve been tracking closely at Tile Wholesalers of Rochester. Warm tones like clay, taupe, and sand are increasingly being used to create grounded, welcoming interiors — a trend reflected in Fixr’s 2025 Interior Design and Color Trends Report, which named warm neutrals one of the year’s top color choices. Whether showcased in large-format porcelain or hand-glazed wall tile, these hues offer a timeless, comforting aesthetic.
Texture also took center stage. From subtle dimensional surfaces to boldly tactile designs, manufacturers are leaning into materials that invite interaction. Matte and textured finishes appeared consistently across many collections, adding a sense of depth and craftsmanship..
The Balance of Size: Large Formats & Small-Scale Revival
Oversized tile is still going strong, with thin, expansive slabs offering a sleek, modern look for everything from feature walls to flooring. Large-format tiles — often measuring 24"×24" and up — create a seamless, expansive aesthetic with fewer grout lines, making them ideal for open-concept spaces and areas where visual continuity is key.
Designers continue to embrace these impressive dimensions for both indoor and outdoor use, leveraging their ability to make small spaces feel larger and to add a sense of sophistication and flow. Whether used to enhance a minimalistic interior or to create a striking outdoor living area, large-format tiles are a modern staple.
But interestingly, small-scale tile is back on the rise as well, especially in detailed mosaics and geometric formats. Designers are embracing contrast, combining large and small formats to create layered, dynamic spaces.
Nature-Inspired Patterns & Wallpaper Looks
Patterned tile is having a moment — and not just bold, graphic motifs. We saw a growing emphasis on nature-inspired collections that mimic organic textures and earthy palettes.
This nature-forward direction ties directly into the growing popularity of biophilic design — a concept focused on enhancing our connection to the natural world. From wood-look porcelain to stone-inspired textures, the tile industry is embracing elements that reflect the outdoors and promote a sense of calm. Research shows that integrating nature into our built environments can reduce stress, improve focus, and boost overall well-being — making these collections as functional as they are beautiful.
Tiles that resemble wallpaper — with intricate patterns, delicate florals, or fabric-like textures — also stood out as a creative way to introduce personality into a space.
Realism & Innovation in Porcelain
The realism being achieved in porcelain tile continues to impress. Leading manufacturers like Atlas Concorde showcased collections so true-to-life that even seasoned designers might second-guess whether they’re looking at tile or natural stone. These technological advancements are redefining what’s possible in terms of both look and feel.
Beyond visual appeal, porcelain remains one of the most durable and dependable materials on the market. Thanks to its dense, low-porosity composition, it stands up to moisture, stains, and daily wear, making it a practical choice for both residential and commercial spaces. Whether you're designing a bathroom, kitchen, or high-traffic area, porcelain tile offers long-lasting performance without sacrificing style.
And with today’s digital printing capabilities, porcelain is also one of the most versatile materials in terms of design. From wood looks to natural stone and even fabric textures, it’s a designer’s dream — combining beauty, strength, and easy maintenance in one smart surface.
The Show Experience: Creativity at Every Corner
Beyond the products themselves, the overall show experience was elevated. Booth designs felt more like curated gallery spaces, and it was clear that manufacturers are putting just as much thought into presentation as they are into product development. Being on the ground gave us a firsthand look at how brands are responding to evolving client needs, especially in the residential and hospitality sectors.
